Hand Crafted Beaded Spider Pin & Pendant In Great Condition.
This lovely piece measures approximately 3/4" x 1 1/2"
Has a small loop so can be used as a pin or a pendant.
It is made of two large, faceted glass or crystal beads (one larger for the abdomen, one smaller for the head).
Legs: Flexible jewelry wire or headpins threaded with a mix of long glass bugle beads and tiny seed beads.
Thin artistic wire wrapped around the center to secure the legs to the body.
These specific crafts are often called "Christmas Spiders." They are based on an old Eastern European folk tale (frequently attributed to Ukraine or Poland) about a poor widow who could not afford to decorate her Christmas tree. While her family slept, spiders spun beautiful webs over the branches. When the morning sun hit the webs, they miraculously turned into gold and silver tinsel. Today, hanging a beaded spider on a tree is considered a symbol of good luck and prosperity.
